What kisspeptin-10 is

The KISS1 gene encodes a precursor that is processed into kisspeptins of several lengths (54, 14, 13 and 10 amino acids). All share a C-terminal sequence that binds and activates the G-protein-coupled receptor KISS1R, also called GPR54.

Kisspeptin-10 is the minimal fragment that retains receptor activity, which makes it a common reference ligand in receptor-binding and signaling assays.

Published research

Interest in the pathway grew after 2003 reports linked loss-of-function GPR54 mutations to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, identifying kisspeptin signaling as an upstream regulator of gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons.

Later clinical-research studies examined kisspeptin administration and gonadotropin responses. These are investigational studies; kisspeptin is not an approved medicine.

Laboratory handling considerations

Keep lyophilized material sealed and cold, equilibrate before opening, reconstitute with an appropriate solvent, aliquot to avoid repeated freeze-thaw, and log the lot number with results.

Research-use-only scope

This monograph summarizes published scientific literature for educational and reference purposes only. It is not medical, veterinary, clinical, or dosing guidance, and nothing here should be read as a claim that this compound is safe, effective, or approved for use in humans or animals.

Material supplied by North Summit Labs is intended strictly for in-vitro laboratory research by qualified professionals. It is not a drug, supplement, food, cosmetic, or medical device, and it is not for human or animal consumption. Investigators are responsible for complying with their own institutional oversight, biosafety, and legal requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between kisspeptin-10 and kisspeptin-54?

Both come from the same KISS1 precursor and activate KISS1R. Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest active fragment; kisspeptin-54 is the full-length peptide.

How is kisspeptin research material supplied?

As a 5mg lyophilized powder in a sealed, lot-labeled vial for in-vitro laboratory research only.
